[Post Conference Devo] Matthew 28:18-20

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

“Everything” is extreme.  It is like the words “All”, “Always” or “Never”.

I often discourage people from speaking in extremes.  Extreme language is often a sign of immaturity. You will hear it in phrases like…

“This always happens to me…” or “I will never get to…” or “Everyone else gets to…”

We should be cautious when tempted to make extreme statements…unless we are quoting Jesus.  Jesus can…and does often make extreme statements.

In His extreme statements we should find rest and encouragement for our souls!

As an example, go back and read the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20.

I like to summarize that passage with this phrase: “Not SOME…but ALL.”

As you read that passage, meditate on the beauty of all authority…all nations…all commands…and always with you!

Let’s let Jesus do the extreme talking…and we can do the extreme trusting.
